Munkácsy on the runway: the Sugarbird her new collection is both bold and respectful

Munkácsy a kifutón: a Sugarbird új kollekciója egyszerre merész és tiszteletteljes

Békéscsaba recently hosted a special fashion event, as they presented the Sugarbird and the Munkácsy A limited collection created in collaboration with the Mihály Memorial House, which pays tribute to one of the greatest figures in Hungarian painting.

The capsule collection features more than fifty garments from two iconic brands. Munkácsy reinterprets a painting while maintaining the brand's familiar, distinctive style. Of course, the Sugarbird Family members also visited the event, and not in just any role.

"The collaboration is not just a fashion project, but also a cultural mission, the aim of which is to reborn classical Hungarian art as part of everyday life, in a wearable form. As a native of Békés County, it is a collection that is even closer to my heart, especially because our dear artist friend, Adrienn Gazsó, also contributed to the event. So, as a surprise, not only the brilliant Munkácsy paintings were welcomed back at the exhibition, but also Adrienn's impressive works." – said Jagasics v. Csonka Hedvig, the Sugarbird founder and owner.

"The Advent period is a time of preparation for the holiday. At this time, we dress our homes, ourselves and our souls in a festive way. The appearance of this collection could not be more timely. The figure of the Virgin Mary, the rose without thorns, is a symbol of purity, fragility, but at the same time a symbol of spiritual strength that is above all else. A role model for every girl, woman and mother.” – said Adrienn Gazsó, contemporary painter.

The grand show featured the Sugarbird Family members, including Franciska Farkas, Margó Bódi, Zsuzska Takács, Lotti Hajdrik, Donatella Hunyadi and Dorottya Németh. The designers of the Hungarian fashion brand placed great emphasis on using the original compositions and characters of the paintings not as mere decorative elements, but as giving them real meaning. The patterns symbolically represent the continuation of culture. “One of my favorite collections is Munkácsy. The presentation was a great experience, the show element was great, the Pensive Woman came to life and stepped out of the painting. We will continue, as it is a huge success and a very valuable collection with a designer's vision.” – Ádám Baranyi, the Sugarbird brand designer.

The warm, emotional atmosphere of the presentation was further enhanced by the significance of the location, as Békéscsaba is not only Munkácsy hometown, but also a symbolic point in Hungarian art history. The event was thus both a contemporary fashion event and a cultural time travel.
